BALTO (Bring A Light To Others) was created in 1994 as an Edmond North student fund-raiser. Last year the students of Edmond North raised money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and 5% of the donations went to BLAZE as Edmond's Common Thread organization. We raised over $185,000! In the past, BALTO has been a very successful fund-raiser helping many people in need throughout Oklahoma. BALTO is an amazing way for the student body, faculty, local businesses, and the community to make a positive impact on somebody's life. The majority of the contributions are raised by BALTO candidates who contact friends, relatives, and other residents in our community.

This year, BALTO is the week of February 2nd-6th. This year's recipient is the Oklahoma Brain Tumor Foundation. OBTF provides help to families who have brain tumors by helping pay medical bills, car and house mortgages, and other necessary funds that families with cancer cannot necessarily pay. Ninety-five percent of all contributions go to the Oklahoma Brain Tumor Foundation and the other 5% goes to the Common Thread.

Every year, all three Edmond high schools join together and contribute to a charity called the Common Thread. This year, the Common Thread Funds will help Diana Caporale, an alumnus of Santa Fe High School. Diana was diagnosed with Auto-Immune Hepatitis, which resulted in Cirrhosis of the Liver. There is no cure or treatment, and eventually, Diana will need a liver transplant. These funds will go towards her account with the National Transplant Assistance Fund for a new liver and the medication payments that will continue throughout her life.

The goal for BALTO 2008 is $134,170. This number can only be reached with your help. Please consider donating any amount you wish for this awesome cause to grant a child's wish! Any amount of donations will be greatly appreciated and will impact the lives of these children. All donations are tax deductible. Thank you so much for being an important part of BALTO 2009!
